i tried scanning it with AVG free edition but it couldn't be detected but when i explore it the antivirus could detect the the infected file and put it to the virus vault. my problem is i can't remove the virus from my usb flashdrive. i tried formatting it but it didn't work.

If you formatted the USB drive, then that would have removed the virus as all data is removed. The drive must have been inserted into another infected Windows machine, and hence reinfected.
