Well i currently don't have any antivirus program, and i think i got a virus. I am quite computer literate, but i need a little advice here. When i did a free online scan provided by Trend Micro HouseCall 6.5, my computer went to the blue screen of death when it started scanning files and computer. I am quite sure this is because I have a virus.
My question is, what can i do besides completely restore my computer. I have a lot of settings that i don't want to lose, as well as a few programs with some huge patches that i dont' want to re download.

Also, i have an HP laptop. If you need the model and all that stuff feel free to ask. It is running XP media.
