Viruses etc???

Hi I recently got a Trojan with a rogue russian antivirus program. I beleve that I successfully removed it but am now more aware of the dangers.

I looked around the web and have downloaded the following things, aswell as already having McAfee:

AVG-Anti-spyware-free version

AVG-Anti-Virus-free version

Malwarebytes-Anti-malware

Are any of these unnecessary, r will these completely protect my computer?

Thanks RTS

Viruses etc???downloads

The use of 2 or more anti-virus programs at the same time can cause major conflicts. The 2 scanning engines will fight each other to scan every file that you read, write or execute which can cause a major computer slowdown. For the same reason, using 2 A-Vs can cause you to have less protection from the various malware, not more.

(Using an anti-spyware and a firewall with an anti-virus is good, however and is recommended)

You might consider uninstalling AVG Anti-virus due to its low detection rates.

But there is no way to "completely protect" a computer.

NO anti-virus can ever be relied upon to give 100% protection. None of them do, free or paid. Most only detect about 85 to 95% of all KNOWN viruses. When a brand new virus is released, NO signature-based anti-virus will detect it for several hours up to several days. And over 1200 new variants of viruses and other malware are created by the "black-hats" each and every day.

And a trojan that is undetected for even one hour is long enough for it to connect to the internet, and "phone home" to the attacker with your personal and finiancial information.

You should consider an anti-virus program to be your "last line of defense". Safe internet surfing and downloading practices along with maintaining your Windows and all your installed software with all critical updates and security patches (an absolute must) should be your frontline defense.

The best computer security is that which resides between the keyboard and the chair!
